n theory the 13th Chord is formed by adding a the 13th (6th) to a dominant 11th chord (1 2(9) 3 4(11) 5 b7) to form 1 2(9) 3 4 5 6(13) b7. However this gives us 7 notes and only 6 strings on the guitar to play them. The most important degrees in this chord are 1 3 6(13) b7. 13th chords can often be heard in blues progressions.
